Friends of Pioneer Park is a community-based group of Calistogans whose goal is to improve this well-loved park using private funds. The idea grew from the need to replace the existing gazebo due to its physical deterioration. With the city short of money for capital improvements, the group was formed in early 2013 to raise funds from the community and build a new gazebo in time for the 2014 Music in the Park season.
The City Council has blessed this idea, and what started as an informal committee has now been formalized as a California non-profit corporation that has obtained tax-exempt status from the IRS. An architect member of FPP has designed the new gazebo, and a landscape architect has developed a park renovation plan that calls for improvements in landscaping, fencing, lighting and other infrastructure. All of these planned improvements are now being reviewed by the city council and planning commssion with construction slated to start by early 2014.
